ソープオペラ（英: soap opera) は、通常ロングランのラジオまたはテレビのドラマ・シリーズ。メロドラマ、アンサンブル・キャスト、感傷的なストーリーを特徴とすることが多い[1]。石鹸製造会社がラジオ・ドラマのスポンサーとなっていたことから「ソープオペラ」と呼ばれるようになった[2]。これ以前より西部劇を指す「ホースオペラ」という言葉があった。
