1971年から1972年の2年間、北の島の林業の街を舞台にした『Pukemanu』がニュージーランドの最初期のソープオペラとして放送され、NZBC初の連続ドラマとなった[74][75]。1975年から1983年、TVNZ1でソープオペラ『Close to Home』が放送された。マイケル・ヌーナンとトニー・アイザックは『The Governor』の制作を条件に週2回放送の『Close to Home』を制作し、1977年をピークに100万人近くが視聴した[76]。1987年から1990年、連続テレビドラマ『Gloss』が放送された。レッドファーン家が経営する架空の大規模出版社について描かれた。『Gloss』はアメリカのソープオペラ『ダイナスティ』のニュージーランド版アンサー番組として、キャリントン・オイルの家系の代わりに裕福なレッドファーン家とそのオークランド雑誌出版社が登場した。テムエラ・モリソン、ミランダ・ハーコート、ピーター・エリオット、リサ・チャペル、ダニエル・コーマック、ケヴィン・スミスなど多くの俳優たちがこの番組を基点としてニュージーランド、オーストラリア、そして世界中の多くの作品に出演するようになった。1992年より、彼らの多くがTVNZ2で放送のニュージーランドで最も人気のソープオペラとなる『ショートランド・ストリート』に主演することとなった。
ラジオ
2010年9月、ラジオ・ニュージーランドは初のラジオ・ソープオペラ番組『You Me Now』の放送を開始した。番組ウェブサイトのポッドキャストで聴取することができる。
