シェイクスピアのソネット集145番には、アン・ハサウェイが取り上げられているといわれている。ソネット中の「hate away」は「Hathaway」の語呂合わせで、ビクトリア朝ではほぼ同じ発音だった。さらに「And saved my life」は「Anne saved my life」と発音ではほとんど区別できない。この145番のソネットは、シェイクスピアが書いた他のソネットと比べると文節が少ない。使用されている単語や文法もシンプルで、他のソネットよりもかなり初期の、シェイクスピアが熟練する前に書かれたソネットだと考えられている。 Those lips that Love's own hand did makeBreathed forth the sound that said 'I hate'To me that languish'd for her sake;But when she saw my woeful stateStraight in her heart did mercy come,Chiding that tongue that ever sweetWas used in giving gentle doom,And taught it thus anew to greet:'I hate' she alter'd with an end,That follow'd it as gentle dayDoth follow night, who like a fiendFrom heaven to hell is flown away;'I hate' from hate away she threw,And saved my life, saying 'not you.'
