フロリゲン

植物の花芽、すなわち展開して花が咲く芽の形成を促進するとされる物質。
フロリゲンは、1937年にはその存在が予言されていたが、それが何の物質であるのかは、70年もの期間にわたり特定されずにいた。2007年に奈良先端科学技術大学院大学の研究チームが「Hd3a遺伝子」から生成されたたんぱく質であることを解明した。
2011年8月1日、奈良先端科学技術大学院大学の同じ研究チームが、フロリゲンの受容体を発見すると同時に、開花時期を自在に変えて花を咲かせる技術を開発したと発表、科学誌Nature上で発表した。
フロリゲンによる開花時期操作の実現は、いわゆる「花咲か爺」を現実のものとする、というだけでなく、農産品の安定的生産などに役立つという。

フロリゲン（florigen）とは植物において花芽形成を誘導するシグナル物質として提唱された植物ホルモン（様物質）である。別名花成ホルモン（かせいホルモン）ともいわれる。1936年に提唱されてから2007年に至るまで約70年間その存在が確認されていなかったことから幻の植物ホルモンともいわれていた[1]。
