アガシー‐こ【アガシー湖】

読み方：あがしーこ

《Lake Agassiz》約3万年から約8000 年前にかけて、北米大陸にあった氷河湖。更新世末期の最終氷期後に氷床が溶け、現在のカナダ中央部に形成。面積は五大湖の合計をはるかにしのいだ。約8000 年前にハドソン湾に接続し、大量の淡水が北極海に注ぐことで熱塩循環を妨げ、ヤンガードリアス期の急激な気温低下をもたらしたとされる。現在のウィニペグ湖・マニトバ湖など、カナダ楯状地外縁部の湖沼はその名残り。
