μ星はν星、φ星とともに、『アルマゲスト』における「プトレマイオスの星表」^[7]より、バイエル^[8]、ハレー^[9]らによって伝統的に、ケンタウルス座の星座の図像において "in dextro latere" - すなわち「右の脇腹」とみられていた。μ星はその "media" - 中央星とされている^[10]。^{[注 3]}

^ 視等級 + 5 + 5×log（年周視差（秒））より計算。小数第1位まで表記
^ 実際には、μ星・ν星・φ星の3星は三角形を描いていて、μ星とν星の2星が先行しており、φ星が後行している。μ星は、その先行している2星の南側に当たる。
^ 後添え字の "e" はスペクトルの中に水素輝線が見られることを、"n" はその輝線スペクトルの幅が広いことを、"p" はスペクトルにそうした特異な性質がみられることを示す。
