独立栄養(性) [Autotrophy,Autotrophism]
自家栄養ともいい、従属栄養(性)の対比語である。栄養源として有機物を必要とせず、二酸化炭素、水、その他の無機塩類を摂取して、光合成あるいは無機化合物の酸化によってエネルギーを獲得して、自身で有機物を合成して生育している様式をいう。炭素源として炭酸ガスを利用して、光合成を行う場合を光合成独立栄養(photo-autotrophy)といい、ほとんどの植物や藻類、藍藻(藍菌)、光合成細菌(紅色硫黄細菌、緑色硫黄細菌)などがこの様式である。また、無機化合物の酸化によってエネルギーを獲得している場合を化学合成独立栄養(chemo-autotrophy)といい、アンモニア酸化細菌(亜硝酸菌)や亜硝酸酸化細菌(硝酸菌)などの硝化細菌、硫黄酸化細菌、鉄酸化細菌、水素細菌などがこの様式である。ただし、大部分の硫黄酸化細菌、水素細菌および一部の鉄酸化細菌は化学合成独立栄養と従属栄養の両方、渦鞭毛藻類は光独立栄養と従属栄養の両方で生育できるので、このような場合を混合栄養(mixotrophy)とよばれる。

独立栄養生物（どくりつえいようせいぶつ、英：Autotroph、オートトロフ）は、炭素を含む単純な無機化合物（二酸化炭素、重炭酸塩など）のみを炭素源として、複雑な有機化合物（炭水化物、脂肪、タンパク質など）を生成して生育する生物群のことである[1]。例えば、二酸化炭素を還元して、生合成経路を経て様々な有機化合物を作る生物群などである。
