- ^ Chiltern Court became one of the most prestigious addresses in London. It was home to, among others, the novelists アーノルド・ベネット and ハーバート・ジョージ・ウェルズ.[21] A ブルー・プラーク commemorating Wells was added to the building on 8 May 2002.[22]
- ^ 'Jolly Good Ale and Old' was a poem by en:John Still (c.1543–1608), Bishop of en:Bath and Wells, that was included in The Week-End Book, an anthology edited by Francis & Vera Meynell, whose first edition was published in 1924. 'The Wreck of the "What's Her Name"' by Ronald Bagnall & Denham Harrison (1912) contained the lines: "The men they called for smelling-salts, the women shrieked for beer!/Good old glorious beer my lads, not arf, four alf beer!".[38]

- ^ In Tropic of Ruislip, it was possible to hear the rattle of the Metropolitan from Plummers Park. However, although Plummers Park was placed close to Watford "in the latitude of en:Ruislip", it was said to be thirty miles from Central London, whereas Metro-land (1932 edition) gave the distance from Ruislip to Baker Street as 13¼ miles.
