シクウォイア（チェロキー文字での自称[1][2]：ᏍᏏᏉᏯ；そのラテン翻字：S-si-quo-ya、1767年頃 - 1843年）は、チェロキーの銀細工師で、1821年に独力でチェロキー文字を創造した人物。その意図は、チェロキー語での読み書きを可能にすることであった。彼の発明は、文字を持たない民族の一員が実用性のある文字体系を独力で作り出した、歴史上唯一の例である[3][4]。その価値を認めたチェロキー族の間には急速にこの音節文字の使用が広まり、1825年には公式に採用された。彼らの識字率は周囲の白人入植者たちのそれを急速に追い抜いた[3]。
