とかどへちま (十角糸瓜)
●東南アジアが原産です。「へちま」の近縁で、インドから東南アジアでは野菜として栽培されています。蔓性で他の樹木などに絡みついて伸びます。葉は大きな腎形で互生し、縁には粗い鋸歯があります。葉の両面は短毛に被われます。夏、葉腋に黄色い雄花と雌花を咲かせます。果実は円筒形のうり状果で、１０個の稜があります。若い果実は食用にされます。
●Ridged luffa (Luffa acutangula) belongs to Cucurbitaceae (Gourd family). Itis an annual herb that is native to Southeast Asia. It is closely related toLuffa and cultivated as a vegetable in India and Southeast Asia. This herb isa trailing vine and climbs up adjacent plants. The leaves are large reniformand alternate with coarsely-toothed margins. The both sides of leaves arecovered with short hairs. The male and female flowers are borne on theaxiles in summer. The fruits are cylindrical pepo with 10 ridges. The youngfruits are used for food.
