地理
地勢
市域面積は525平方キロメートルでブダペストはハンガリーの中央部に位置し、周辺部はペシュト県の市街のアグロメレーション（密集地）である。ブダペストは東西南北に25-29kmの範囲でそれぞれ広がり、ドナウ川は市街地の北側から入り込みオーブダ島とマルギット島の2つの島を回り込む。チェペル島はブダペストのドナウ川にある島では最大であるが、市域に含まれるのは北端の部分だけである。ドナウ川は2つの部分に分けられ、ブダペストには川幅が僅か230mの箇所もある。ペストは平坦な地勢の場所にあり、ブダは丘がちな地勢である[11]。ペストの地勢は僅かに東側に上りの傾斜があり市の最も東側の部分の標高はブダのよく知られた小さな丘であるゲッレールト丘 (Gellért) や城の丘と同じ程度である。ブダの丘は石灰岩や苦灰岩で主に構成され、水により二次生成物が作られる。ブダペストで有名なものにはパルヴギ窟 (Pálvölgyi) やセムルヘギ窟 (Szemlőhegyi) がある。丘は三畳紀に形成され、ブダペストで一番高い地点は海抜527mのヤーノシュ山である。一番低い地点はドナウ川の地点で海抜96mである。ブダの丘陵地の森林は環境保護が成されている。
気候
ブダペストの気候は大陸性気候に属し、比較的寒い冬がやって来て地中海性気候のような乾燥した夏がやって来る。定義上は西岸海洋性気候(Cfb)に属す。
