到着予定時刻とは？わかりやすく解説

到着予定時刻（とうちゃくよていじこく、英: estimated time of arrival, ETA, ETOA）は、船舶、車両、航空機、貨物、緊急車両^[1]^[2]、が目的地に到達する予定時刻。特に公共交通機関で使うことが多く、電車、バス、航空機等の動きを基に、所定の時刻表から割り出したり、最新の交通量から逐次概算してゆく^[要出典]。交通機関の場合、対義語に当たる「出発予定時刻（estimated time of departure, ETD）」と対にして用いることが多い^[要出典]。

航空機を例に取ると、現在地から目的地までの距離を、これまでの巡航速度で除した値が最も単純な到着予定時刻の算出方法である^[要出典]。但し、この運算だと、風向きの変化等、不測の事態で実際の到着時刻と到着予定時刻がずれてしまうことがある^[要出典]。

実例

中には、最新の到着予定時刻を正確に把握することがカギとなるような事例もある。

航空管制では、予定到着時刻の順で到着便を着陸させると、遅れを最小限に抑えることができる^[3]^[4]。
同じく、空港内の搭乗口を効率よく運用するのにも到着予定時刻が必要になる^[5]。
エレベーターの運用でも、待ち時間や乗車時間を最小限に抑えるために到着予定時刻が重要になる^[6]^[7]。

比喩的な用例

物体の移動を伴わない場合でも、比喩的にETAと呼称するケースがある。例えば

北米プロスポーツリーグ（主にMLBやNHL）において、現時点で下部組織のリーグに所属し育成されている有望選手が、成長を遂げて最高峰リーグ（MLBやNHL）に昇格・到達する予想時期を「ETA」と呼称している^[8]。
仕事を処理するのにかかる時間、コンピューター上で演算を終えるまでにかかる時間やファイルの移動・コピーに要する時間等にETAを使う。この場合、ETAは後付で「任務遂行予定時刻、estimated time of accomplishment」の略とされる(いわゆるバクロニム)^[要出典]。一例として、Windowsに付属されているチェックディスクをコマンドラインで実行した際に、処理が完了するまでの所要時間（終了予定時刻ではない）をETAと表している。^[9]
