切り裂きジャックと疑われた者たち

本項では1888年にイギリス、ロンドンのイーストエンドで発生した連続殺人事件、いわゆる切り裂きジャック事件の犯人と疑われた者たちについて説明する。 1888年8月から11月にかけてイーストエンドのホワイトチャペル及びその近隣で起こった陰惨な連続殺人事件の正体不明の犯人は「切り裂きジャック(ジャック・ザ・リッパー)」と呼ばれ、当時から彼についての様々な捜査や推理がなされ、100人以上の容疑者たちが挙げられてきた[1][2]。警察だけではなくメディアや一般人による犯人の推定も当時から広く行われている。 様々な説が唱えられているが、専門家らの間で広く共有されるような説得力のある説はなく、まったく相手にされないものもある。 事件発生から長い時を経ており、犯人についての推理は続いているものの、もはや犯人を特定することは極めて困難と思われる。
