Litecoinとは、いわゆる暗号通貨の一種である。Bitcoin（ビットコイン）のフォークであり、ビットコインに次ぐ規模で流通している。
Litecoinは、取引承認速度がBitcoinよりも速く、かつ、発行量の上限がBitcoinの4倍と多い、といった点を特徴としている。暗号化方式はBitcoinとは異なる。
Litecoinは公式に「Bitcoinを補完する商取引媒体」と自らを位置づけている。BitcoinとLitecoinの関係は金と銀に喩えられることがある。

ライトコイン（英語: Litecoin）とは、Peer to Peer型の暗号通貨であり、ビットコインから派生した初期のアルトコインである[2]。ライトコインは、マサチューセッツ工科大学を卒業したCharlie Leeによって作られた。[3][4]従来のビットコインから派生し、その欠点を解消した暗号通貨であり、総発行枚数は約8400万枚と予定されている[5]。
