ジェローム・ブルーナーとは？わかりやすく解説

ジェローム・シーモア・ブルーナー（Jerome Seymour Bruner, 1915年 10月1日 - 2016年 6月5日）は、アメリカ合衆国の心理学者。ニューヨーク市出身。1950年代に認知革命を主導した一人でもあり、認知心理学の生みの親の一人であると考えられている^[1]。また文化心理学の育ての親の一人でもあり、教育心理学、教育方法論の分野でも有名である^[1]。その生涯を通して20世紀心理学の歴史を体現した巨人であり、20世紀において28番目に引用された心理学者である^[2]。

来歴

ハーバード大学のカール・ラシュレーのもとで動物心理学を学び、1941年に学位を取得。戦後まもなく、欲求や動機づけが知覚に影響を及ぼすことを示す一連の研究を行い、ニュールック心理学を主導する。その後、思考方略や教育方法の研究に進み、1959年には教育方法の改善に関するウッズホール会議の議長となって、その成果を『教育の過程』として出版した。

1960年代にそれまでの行動主義心理学を覆す、認知革命を先導した^[1]^[3]。認知革命とは心理学に意味を取り戻そうとする運動であった^[1]^[3]。認知革命の結果として認知科学および認知心理学が成立した。

1972年にはイギリスに渡り、8年間に渡ってオックスフォード大学教授を務め、主に乳幼児発達に関する研究を行った。その後、アメリカに戻り、文化心理学やナラティヴ研究への理論的貢献を行っている。ニューヨーク大学法学部に勤務した。

「どの教科でも、知的性格をそのままに保って、発達のどの段階のどの子どもにも効果的に教えることができる」という仮説を提示した。

発見学習の提唱者でもあり、教科の構造化の提唱も行った。

後年は100歳を超えるまでニューヨーク大学教授を務めた。
