「contingent」の語源は、一緒にという意味のラテン語の「con-」+触れるという意味の「tangere」である。ラテン語の「con-」+「tangere」が、接触しているという意味のラテン語の「contingere」に変化し、付随するという意味の古期フランス語の「contingent」を経由し、英語の「 contingent」になった。また、達成するという意味の英語の「attain」も、語源が同じである。

「contingent worker」とは

「contingent worker」とは、派遣労働者、契約労働者など、臨時雇用の労働者という意味である。プロジェクトに基づいた仕事をするために会社に雇われた労働者で、社員として雇われるわけではない。フリーランスワーカーやギグワーカーなど、外部委託労働者を指すこともある。

「contingent liability」とは

「contingent liability」とは、偶発債務、未確定責任を意味する。特定の事象の結果に応じて、将来発生する可能性のある債務や潜在的な損失のことである。潜在的な訴訟、製品保証、保留中の調査などが、「contingent liability（偶発債務）」の例としてあげられる。

「non-contingent」とは

「non-contingent」とは、何かに依存したり、影響を受けたりしないという意味である。
