ジャンヌ・ダルク（フランス語: Jeanne d'Arc、古綴：Jehanne Darc[注 1]、IPA: [ʒan daʁk]、英: Joan of Arc、ユリウス暦1412年ごろ1月6日[注 2] - 1431年5月30日）は、15世紀のフランス王国の軍人。フランスの国民的ヒロインで、カトリック教会における聖人でもある。「オルレアンの乙女」（フランス語: la Pucelle d'Orléans[4]/英: The Maid of Orléans[5]）とも呼ばれる。

- ^ D'Arc という綴りは近世になって変化してできたもので、15世紀当時には姓にアポストロフをつける習慣は無かった。公式の記録などでは Darc, Dars, Day, Darx, Dare, Tarc, Tart, Dart などと書かれる。ジャンヌ自身は Jehanne と綴ったといわれている www.stjoan-center.com/Album/, parts 47 and 49; it is also noted in Pernoud and Clin).
- ^ 現代の研究書ではジャンヌの誕生日が1月6日だと断言しているものが多い。しかしながら、ジャンヌは自身の年齢でさえも推測で答えることしかできなかった。ジャンヌの復権審理の場でもジャンヌの年齢は推測であり、復権審理に証人として出廷したジャンヌの名付親ですら、ジャンヌの生年月日を明らかにすることはなかった。1月6日がジャンヌの誕生日であるという説は、1429年7月21日のペルスヴァル・ブーランビリエ卿の証言を元にした書簡ただ1つに拠っている[1]。しかしながらブーランビリエはドンレミの出身ではなく、このブーランビリエが語ったとされる証言の記録も残っていない。教区教会の出生記録に貴族以外の誕生日が記録され始めたのは、数世代後になってからのことである[要出典]。

- ^ 歴史書や小説では、ジャンヌを冷遇したデュノワを別の名前で記していることが多い。ジャンヌの死後にデュノワが叙爵された、デュノワ伯爵という称号で記述している書物もある。ジャンの存命時には、デュノワは庶子でフランス王シャルル7世の最年長の従兄弟だったことから敬意をこめて「オルレアンの私生児」と呼ばれていた。現在の「私生児（bastard）という言葉には侮蔑的な意味が強いため、「私生児」と呼ばれていた当時のド・デュノワが馬鹿にされていたと勘違いされることも少なくない。オルレアン公家との関係を強調した「ジャン・ドルレアン（Jean d'Orleans）」という呼称は必ずしも正確ではないが、時代錯誤的な間違いとはいえない (see Pernoud and Clin, pp. 180 – 181)。
