エンジンの内部にオイルの飛沫を発生させる機構を有する潤滑方式のこと。加圧したエンジンオイルによって潤滑する、強制潤滑に対する用語である。コンロッドキャップの下部にオイルジッパーを設けて、くぼみにたまったエンジンオイルをはね上げて飛沫をつくる。強制潤滑方式であっても、シリンダーとピストンの間のように加圧したオイルを導けない部位では、オイルミスト(飛沫)により潤滑しているが、この場合には飛沫潤滑、またはオイルミスト潤滑と呼んでいる。
