ダブリュー‐イー‐ユー【WEU】

読み方：だぶりゅーいーゆー

《Western European Union》西欧同盟。NATO（北大西洋条約機構）内の西欧 10か国（英国・フランス・ベルギー・オランダ・ルクセンブルク・ドイツ・イタリア・スペイン・ポルトガル・ギリシャ）の軍事機構。1948年、英国・フランス・ベルギー・オランダ・ルクセンブルクの5か国により旧ソ連の脅威に対処する集団防衛機構として発足、1955年に旧西ドイツとイタリアを加えた7か国からなる西欧同盟に改組。1993年のEU（欧州連合）発足にともない、西欧同盟の使命はEUに引き継がれ、2011年には活動を終了した。

西欧同盟（せいおうどうめい、英語: Western European Union, WEU、フランス語: Union de l'Europe occidentale, UEO）は、1948年に署名された、冷戦期における西ヨーロッパ諸国の間における防衛に関する合意事項をうたったブリュッセル条約の実行を使命としていた国際組織。冷戦終結以降、欧州連合がより広範な役割を果たすようになり、西欧同盟の使命や機関は欧州連合に移管されている。
