OpenBSD
読み方：オープンビーエスディー
4.4BSDベースのUNIX系OS。
セキュリティに細心の注意を払って開発されており、カーネルレベルで暗号ソフトウェアが組み込まれているなど、世界で最もセキュリティが高く堅牢であるOSを目標に開発が続けられる。公式サイトによれば、「８年以上の間、デフォルトインストールでのリモートセキュリティホールが1つしか見つかっていない」という。
FreeBSD、Linux、Solaris、HP-UXなどで動作する多くのプログラムのバイナリエミュレーション機能を持つ。
暗号化技術を組み込むために、米国輸出規制に抵触しないよう、カナダに開発の本拠地が置かれている。

OpenBSDとは、BSD系OSのうち、高いセキュリティ性を持つことを特徴とするUNIXライクなOSである。
OpenBSDは1995年にNetBSDから派生する形で誕生した。そのためベースとなるOSはNetBSDと同様「4.4BSD-Lite」である。デフォルトインストール状態では、発見されたセキュリティホールは長い期間のうちに2つのみであるとされている。姉妹プロジェクトとして、「OpenSSH」や「OpenCVS」などの開発プロジェクトも進められている。
