ライ（英: Rye）は、イングランドのイースト・サセックスにあるロザー地区に位置する行政教区 (Civil parish) の小さな町である。海岸から 3.2キロメートル (2.0 mi) 離れた^[2]^[3]、ロザー川（英語版）、ティリンガム川（英語版）、ブリード川（英語版）の3河川の合流点にあたる^[4]^[5]。中世のライは、イギリス海峡の湾の形成するなかにあって、ほぼすべて海に囲まれており、シンク・ポーツ（英語版）連合の重要な1港となっていた。ライは海との歴史的関係において、戦争の際に王に貢献する船の提供のほか、密輸との関わりなども知られる。悪名高い密輸組織ホークハースト・ギャング（英語版）は、秘密の通路でつながるといわれる古くからの宿泊施設（イン、Inn）であるザ・マーメイド・イン（英語版） (The Mermaid Inn) や^[6]ジ・オールド・ベル・イン（英語版） (The Olde Bell Inn〈Ye Old Bell Inn〉) を利用していた^[7]。そういった歴史の流れと趣のある今日のホテルやレストランなどから、ライは観光の町を形成している^[8]。また、小型船のほか、ライ・ハーバー（英語版）にはヨットやその他船舶のための施設がある。2011年の国勢調査においてライの人口は4225人であり、2019年6月末の推計では4802人となっている^[1]。
