スピーブ

スピーブ（英語: Spiv）は、闇市などで非合法な製品の取引を行う軽犯罪者、すなわち闇屋を指すイギリス英語の表現である。戦時下の物資不足と配給制度を背景に、スピーブは第二次世界大戦中から戦後しばらくにかけてよく見られた。

- ^ ただし、戦時中は刑事罰を課す法律自体が増加していたことにも留意すべきである。例えば、自分の考えを話すこと、灯火管制の不徹底、バターを多く買いすぎることなども処罰の対象と成り得た。また、近所の人々と配給品を分け合うことも禁じられていた。作家ドロシー・L・セイヤーズは国民の相互監視が行われる状況をナチスと何ら変わらないと非難し、ウィンストン・チャーチル首相も苦言を呈していた。後にチャーチルは「細々とした規制を執行しないように」と指示を出している[1]。
