- ニュージランド北部オークランド (Auckland) 近郊にある標高182 mの小高い丘である。この丘の頂上に本種の有名な個体があった。この場所は地峡に位置し、その展望のよさ、急斜面と崩れやすい地質のため敵が進行しにくいといった防衛上の利点、海が近いため食料を手にしやすいなどの理由で当地の先住民マオリの部族が古くから暮らしていた。丘の名前は白人の入植者たちがオークランドを発見したとき、この丘の頂近くに1本の木(one tree)を見つけたことに由来する。マオリの言葉ではこの場所をMaungakiekieと呼び、「kiekie (Freycinetia banksii) の生える山」、もしくは「1本のtotara (Podocarpus totara、マオリが神聖な木として崇める樹種) 」という意味だという。白人たちはこの木を切り倒し、1本のラジアータマツを植えた。マツは大木に生長し、丘の象徴となっていたものの1994年10月と2000年10月に政府に不満を持つマオリによってチェーンソーで襲撃を受けた。特に2000年の攻撃では個体の半分が枯死する致命傷を負い、同月下旬に伐採・撤去された。この個体は幹の部分の円盤標本を含め多くの部位が保存されている。巨木の消えた丘は、洒落を含めてノンツリーヒル (None Tree Hill、木が無い丘) などと呼ばれている[34]。
