バーミンガム暴動 (1791年)

1791年のバーミンガム暴動 (「プリーストリー暴動」とも呼ばれる) は1791年の7月14日から17日にかけてバーミンガムで起こった暴動である。暴徒らの主な標的は非国教徒 (Dissenters) で、とりわけ神学的・政治的にもその中心的存在であるジョゼフ・プリーストリーであった。公共図書の購入をめぐる論争から、非国教徒による市民権獲得運動やフランス革命支持に対する反発など、地方レベルおよび国家レベルでの時事問題が暴動の引き金になった。
