この曲は、ラテンドラムのパートを追加したレイ・チャールズによる1960年のシングルで最もよく知られている[1]。これはABC-パラマウントでの彼の最初のR&Bヒットであった。翌1961年には「旅立てジャック」が大ヒットとなった[2]。
この曲は、ジェリー・リー・ルイス、ゾンビーズ、ワンダ・ジャクソン、ザ・キングズメン、マンフレッド・マンらがカヴァーした。ライチャス・ブラザーズの「ジャスト・ワンス・イン・マイ・ライフ」、ジョー・コッカーの「マッド・ドッグス&イングリッシュメン」、エルビス・コステロの1994年の拡張プレイバージョンの「コジャック・ヴァラエティ」でも取り上げられた[3]。1997年、ジャズ歌手のロザンナ・ヴィトロは、チャールズへのオマージュである「Catchin’Some Rays：The Music of Ray Charles」にこの曲を含めた。オーストラリアでは、ヴィンス・マロニー・セクトが1966年にこの曲を録音した。ヴィンスはその後イギリスに行き、ビージーズに加入した。
