リトルブラウンジャグ (競馬のレース)とは？わかりやすく解説

リトルブラウンジャグ (Little Brown Jug)は、アメリカ合衆国東岸中部・デラウェア州のフェアグラウンドで行われている繋駕速歩競走である。条件は1マイル (1,609.3 m)、3歳戦。ペース三冠の第3競走として9月の第3木曜日に行われている。

創設は1946年。1956年にメッセンジャーステークスが創設されて以後常に三冠の第2戦であったが、2004年のメッセンジャーステークスの時期変更に伴い三冠最終戦となった。

名前の由来は19世紀末に活躍したリトルブラウンジャグという名のスタンダードブレッドから。現在のスタンダードブレッドがほぼ全てハンブルトニアン10の父方直系子孫であるのに対し、リトルブラウンジャグはゴドルフィンアラビアンの直系子孫であった。なおセン馬であり産駒はいない。
