トラッドワイフ(tradwife、traditional wife または traditional housewife からつくられた新語である[1][2])とは、現代の英米文化において、「ふつうの」結婚と性役割の価値を信じる女性を指す言葉である。トラッドワイフとされる女性の多くは、結婚生活において昔ながらの女性の役割を引き受けることを選ぶ権利があると考えている。家庭や家族のことを大事にするあまり、その代償として自分のキャリアを諦めるという選択をする女性もいる[2]。 その代表的存在が元ミス・カナダのシンシア・ローウェンである。彼女は専業主婦になるために医学部で学位をとる計画をやめている[3]。夫が家計を支え、妻である自分が家を守るという役割分担に満足しているというローウェンは、「やってみたら前よりとても幸せ」だと語っている[3]
