減衰
英語 damping
振動系の要素のひとつで、抵抗力によって失われる振動のエネルギー消費のこと。また、外力が取り除かれた振動が時間とともに小さくなること。自動車では、振動低減の目的で減衰機能をもった多くの部品、材料が用いられている。懸架系のショックアブソーバー、エンジンマウント、各種の制振材などである。

物理学において、減衰（げんすい、英: attenuation、文脈により extinction とも）は媒質中のなんらかの流束の強度が漸減する現象をいう。たとえば、濃色ガラスは日光を、鉛はX線を、水は光と音を減衰させる。
