他の音律との比較

この音律における31段の音程がほとんど正確に純正な完全五度と等しいので、理論上この音律は53音まで拡張されたピタゴラス音律の一形体であると考えられる。したがって（実用上）純正な五度や、純正より広い長三度（純正の5:4に対して81:64）、また逆に狭い短三度（6:5と比べ32:27）など、ピタゴラス音律と同じ特性を持つ音程が利用できる。

しかしながら、53平均律は非常に純正音程に近い追加の音程を含んでいる。例えば、17段の音程も長三度だが、純正な音程(5:4)よりもわずか1.4セントだけ狭い音程である。53平均律は、5限界純正律の音程をよく近似する。

第7倍音に関連する純正音程の近似はやや劣るが、7:5の三全音で最大の偏差を持ちつつ、依然として一致を見せる。第11倍音に関連する音程の近似はより劣る。

53平均律は、32805:32768（スキスマ、純正5度8個と純正長3度1個を重ねた音程と5オクターヴの差分）、15625:15552（クライスマ（英語版）、純正短3度を6個重ねた音程と3:1の音程の差分）、121:120（大小2つの11限界の中立2度の差分）、225:224（七限界のクライスマ、16:15の半音の2倍と8:7の全音の差分）、325:324（10:9の小全音の2倍と16:13の中立3度の差分）、352:351（13:11の短3度とピタゴラス音律の短3度の差分）の周波数比を緩和する。
