- 2004年に発見されたz=10.0のAbell 1835 IR1916は、赤方偏移について議論があるため、この一覧表には含めていない。後追いの観測では、この天体自体が全く見つかっていない。
- 1999年に発見されたz=6.68のSTIS 123627+621755は、酸素の吸収線を水素の吸収線と誤解釈したものを元にして赤方偏移が求められているため、この一覧表には含めていない[105][106][107]。
- 1998年に発見されたz=5.64のBR1202-0725 LAEは、位置が確定していないため、この一覧表には含めていない。クエーサーBR1202-0725 (QSO 1202-07)自体は、z=4.6947である。[60][63]。
- z=4.55のBR2237-0607 LA1とBR2237-0607 LA2は、1996年にクエーサーBR2237-0607の周囲を調べていた際に発見された。位置が確定していないため、この一覧表には含めていない。クエーサー自体は、z=4.558である[108][109]。
- クエーサーBR 1202-07 (QSO 1202-0725, BRI 1202-0725, BRI1202-07)のスペクトルの吸収線に2箇所の欠落があることが、前者は1996年初めに、後者は同年末に発見された。位置が確定していないため、どちらもこの一覧表には含めていない。 前者はz=4.38後者はz=4.695である[59][110][111][112][113]。
- 1986年、銀河団CL 2224-02の重力レンズ効果により青い弧を形成する銀河が発見されたしかし、その赤方偏移は1991年になるまで測定されず、z=2.237と決定した時には、既に最も遠い銀河ではなくなっていた[114][115]。
- 1985年、z=3.21のクエーサーの可視光スペクトルに吸収線の欠落が発見されたが、確定していないため、この一覧表には収録していない。当時は、クエーサー以外で初めて赤色偏移が3を超えたと主張された。クエーサー自体は、z=3.197である[59][116]。
- 1964年から1997年にかけて、宇宙で最も遠い天体の地位は、常にクエーサーが占めていた[66]。クエーサーの一覧も参照。
- 195年、銀河団Cl 0024+1654及びCl 1447+2619の赤色偏移はそれぞれz=0.29とz=0.35であると推定された。しかし、分光学的には、銀河の存在は確定されなかった[82]。
