ポール・アンソニー・グリフィス（Paul Anthony Griffiths, 1947年11月24日 - ）は、イギリスの音楽学者、音楽評論家、台本作家、小説家。

略歴

もとは生化学を大学で専攻していたものの、音楽評論をアルバイトでやっていたところ評判が上がり、1971年からは正規に音楽評論家を名乗って活動している。評論は現代音楽が専門だが、音楽学の分野でも『文化のなかの西洋音楽史』『現代音楽小史―ドビュッシーからブーレーズまで』『現代音楽 1945年以降の前衛』を含む多くの著書で功績がある。1990年代にタン・ドゥン、エリオット・カーターのオペラ台本作者に指名され高評を得たが、オペラ台本作家としての活動は3件である。現在は作家としても小説を発表するなど、多才な人物として知られる。

『文化のなかの西洋音楽史』（A Concise History of Western Music）は2006年の出版のため、さほどのタイムラグは見られないものの、『現代音楽小史―ドビュッシーからブーレーズまで』（Modern Music: A Concise History from Debussy to Boulez）は1990年代の初期まで触れた改訂版が、『現代音楽 1945年以降の前衛』（Modern Music: The avant garde since 1945）は大きく書き換えられた第3版が出版されており、その版では日本語版は出版されていないので注意が必要である。音楽史概論のほかにも、メシアン、リゲティ、ブーレーズ、ケージのモノグラフを立て続けに出版しており、これらは音楽理論専攻者の必読書になっている。

ジャン・バラケをデビュー当時から絶賛しており、The Sea on Fire: Jean Barraqué (Eastman Studies in Music)は、その彼の創作の全貌が論じられた。そのバラケに師事したビル・ホプキンスの創作もグリフィスの手で紹介された。
