【概要】 白血球の一種。血管からにじり出て、組織の間にいる。病原体を飲み込んで消化して病原体の情報をヘルパーT細胞に連絡するマクロファージに変身する。警察に例えると駐在所の警官がマクロファージ、パトカーの警官が単球。細胞の表面にCD4やその他の受容体を持っていて、HIVが感染する。

単球（たんきゅう、Monocyte）は、白血球の一種で、最も大きなタイプの白血球である。マクロファージや、樹状細胞に分化することができる。単球は、脊椎動物の自然免疫の一部としても、また、適応免疫の過程にも影響をもつ。
