ピット (核兵器)

ピットは爆縮型核兵器において核分裂性物質およびそれに取り付けられた中性子反射体またはタンパーからなるコアのことで、桃やアンズの固い種にちなんで名付けられた。1950年代に実験に供された核兵器のピットはウラン235のみ、あるいはウラン235とプルトニウムの複合材で作られていた[1]が、プルトニウムのみとする方が小型化できるため1960年代初めにはプルトニウムのみで作られるようになった。
