ビート (植物)

ビート（英語: beet）は、ヒユ科の植物である（今は Betoideae 亜科に含まれる）[1][2][3][4][5]。ヨーロッパ原産で、地中海沿岸で栽培化されたといわれる[6]。当初は薬用として利用された植物であったが、食用されるようになったのは2 - 3世紀ごろである[6]。ビート（ビーツ）の名はケルト語の bette （赤の意）に由来する[6]。
