転写因子

転写因子（てんしゃいんし、英語: Transcription Factor、TF）はDNAに特異的に結合するタンパク質の一群である。DNA上のプロモーター領域に、基本転写因子と呼ばれるものと、RNAポリメラーゼ（RNA合成酵素）が結合し、転写が開始する。DNAの遺伝情報をRNAに転写する過程を促進、あるいは逆に抑制する。転写因子はこの機能を単独で、または他のタンパク質と複合体を形成することによって実行する。ヒトのゲノム上には、転写因子をコードする遺伝子がおよそ1,800前後存在するとの推定がなされている[1]。
