ハリファックス大爆発（ハリファックスだいばくはつ、英語: Halifax Explosion）は、1917年 12月6日朝、カナダのノバスコシア州ハリファックスで発生した大災害である。アッパー・ハリファックス港（英語版）とベッドフォード湾（英語版）を繋ぐ狭い水路で、ノルウェー船「イモ（Imo）」が、高性能爆薬を積んだフランスの貨物船「モンブラン（Mont-Blanc）」と衝突し、モンブランで発生した火災が積荷に燃え移り、ハリファックスのリッチモンド地区（英語版）を破壊する大爆発を起こした。爆風や破片、火災、建物の倒壊により約2,000人が死亡したほか、推定9,000人が負傷した^[1]。この爆発は、核兵器開発以前に発生した人によって引き起こされた最大の爆発であり^[2]、おおよそTNT換算で2.9キロトンに等しいエネルギーを放出した^[3]。

詳細は「ハリファックス大爆発」を参照 1917年 12月6日9時4分35秒、ハリファックス大爆発が起こり、ノバスコシア州ハリファックスの大部分が大きな被害を受けた。ボストンの有力者らが電報で知らせを受け、すぐに支援列車を用意し同日 22時頃には生存者の支援に向かった。吹雪で遅れたが、12月8日早朝になんとかたどり着き、すぐに食糧、水、医療用品を配給し始めた。ボストンから来た者の多くは、爆発後休憩なしで働いていたノバスコシア州の医療関係者の手助けをすることができた。ノバスコシア州の子供たちは学校でこの爆発について学び、ボストンの人々は最初の支援者たちであり、命の恩人であると教えられる。
