優秀な子供との違い
ギフテッドは、遺伝により生まれ持った特質な資質と環境との相互作用によるものであるが[20]、幼少期から教育熱心な親と特別な教育方法と本人の一生懸命な学習努力で優れた成績を収める秀才とは一線を画するといわれている。
ギフテッドは授業中、深さ、意味、速さ、創造性を絶え間なく必要とするため、一般的な授業を退屈に感じている[11]。
また、近年では落ちこぼれの対義語として「浮きこぼれ」という言葉が生まれ、渋谷区などではギフテッドの学校が有識者によって運営されている。
