ゴンドール（Gondor）は、J・R・R・トールキンが創作した中つ国を舞台とする伝説体系に登場する架空の王国であり、第三紀末の中つ国における西方人のもっとも偉大な国家とされる。『指輪物語』の第三部「王の帰還」では、ゴンドールにおける指輪戦争での出来事と戦後の王国の復古が大きく関わってくる。王国の歴史は、同「追補編」で概説されている。

^ トールキン研究者ジュディ・アン・フォードは、「王の帰還」でのデネソールへの謁見の際のピピンによる広間の描写にはラヴェンナとの建築的関係性があると書き、ローマ帝国の復活を語るゲルマン人の神話について示唆している。^[11]
^ 執政の印章は、Arandur（アランドゥル、王の僕＝執政）を意味するR・ND・Rの三文字の上に三つの星を掲げていた^{[T 35]}。
^ 幼少期のボロミルが父デネソールに、執政が王となるには何百年必要なのか尋ねると、デネソールはこう答えた。「王権のもっと小さなよその国では数年かもしれぬ。」「ゴンドールでは一万年でも充分とはいえぬ。」^{[T 41]}。シッピーはこれをウィリアム・シェイクスピアの『マクベス』への非難とみなし、スコットランドやイングランドではイングランド王ジェームズ1世（スコットランド王ジェームズ6世）のように、たとえ執事長（執政）の家系からでも王に即位できた点を指摘している。^[21]
