歯音前進

歯音前進とは、英語において"th"の子音が "f"や"v"として発音される現象である。歯音前進が起こると/θ/は/f/に変化し,/ð/は/v/に変化する。 (例：threeはfree、batheはbaveと発音される。)/θ/から/f/への変化は語頭でも起こるが、語頭の/ð/は通常/v/に変化しない。 (例：thatが*vatと発音されることは稀である。)歯音前進は1990-4年にロンドン南東部で行われた調査[1]により明らかとなった。コックニー, エセックス英語, 河口域英語, ブリテン島西部方言、ヨークシャー方言, ニューファウンドランド英語, 黒人英語, リベリア英語, 非英語母語話者の英語(香港英語など)でも目立つ現象である。[2]
