概要
2004年、アメリカの飲食店チェーンであるシェーキーズの現地法人がスポンサーとなりシェーキーズVリーグ（Shakey's V-League）として発足[1]。
当初はUAAP, NCAA, CESAFIに属する大学女子バレーボールチームのリーグ戦だった[2]。
2011年、実業団など大学以外のチームにも門戸を開放した[2]。
2014年10月、男子部門を4チームで創設することを発表[3]。しかし、翌2015年にスパイカーズ・ターフとして独立[4][5]。
2017年シーズンよりリーグ名をプレミア・バレーボール・リーグに改称[6]。併せてスパイカーズ・ターフも再合流した[6]。
2018年10月、スパイカーズ・ターフが再度独立[7]。
2020年11月、2021年シーズンからのプロ化を宣言[8]。
