アメージング・リズム・エイセズ（The Amazing Rhythm Aces）はアメリカ合衆国のカントリーロック・バンド。
1975年デビュー。バンドは自身の音楽を「アメリカン・ミュージック」・「ルーツ・ミュージック」と呼んだ。
1975年のデビュー・ヒット"Third Rate Romance"で知られる。
30年間で18枚のアルバムを発表した。途中15年間解散していた。折衷的なサウンド、博学で風変わりな歌詞、リーダーであるラッセル・スミスの独特のボーカルに個性がある。
歴史
1960年代後半はテネシー州Knoxvilleのローカル・バンドだった。元のバンド名は"Fatback"。創始メンバーはRussell Smith, Jeff 'Stick' Davis,Butch McDadeだった。Knoxvilleを1970年代初頭に去った。
1972年、サム・フィリップスのサン・スタジオのエンジニアBarry "Byrd" Burtonのすすめでテネシー州メンフィスで結成。[1]ベースのJeff DavisとドラムのButch McDade（シンガーソングライターJesse Winchesterとツアーしていた）がギター・ボーカルのラッセル・スミス、キーボードのBilly Earheart III、リード・ギターのBurton、ピアノのJames Hookerを集め、独自のサウンドを作った。
デビュー・アルバムStacked Deckを1975年に発表。シングル"Third Rate Romance"と"Amazing Grace (Used to Be Her Favorite Song)"がヒットした。1976年、シングル "The End Is Not in Sight (The Cowboy Tune)"を二作目Too Stuffed to Jumpから切り、グラミー受賞。同年"Third Rate Romance"がカナダで一位になった。最初の三枚のエンジニアと制作はBurtonだった。[2]Burtonは1977年のアルバムToucan Do It Tooの発表後に脱退。Duncan Cameronに替わった。
1978年、四作目Burning the Ballroom Downを発表し、翌年バンド名通りのアルバムを発表し、Joan Baez, Tracy Nelson、マッスル・ショールズ・ホーンが参加した。この二作は批評家に称賛されたが売れなかった。その後、アルバムHow the Hell Do You Spell Rhythumを発表し解散。
その後
Smithはソングライターとして成功。
EarheartはHank Williams, Jr.のバンドBama Bandに参加。
CameronはSawyer Brownという1980年代に売れたバンドに参加した。
HookerはNanci Griffithと1987年に組み、バンドThe Blue Moon Orchestraのリーダーになった。
Jamesは2007年にツアーをやめてアイルランドやスペインに住み、作曲やレコーディングをしている。[3]
Butch McDadeはアルバムOut of the Blueの発表後、長い闘病生活の後に1998年亡くなった。
Barry 'Byrd' Burtonはプロデューサーとして成功し、セッション・ギタリストになった。2002年にソロ・アルバムByrd BraynzをADF Recordsから発表。2008年に亡くなった。[4]
再結成
1994年再結成。Smith, Davis, McDade, Earheart, Hookerとギター・マンドリンのDanny Parksで。ヒット曲のセルフ・カバー・アルバムRide Againを発表。
新曲ばかりのアルバムOut of the Blueは1998年に発表。
Jeff 'Stick' Davisは2004年に脱退。
2004年のアルバムNothin' but the Bluesのあと2007年にアルバムMidnight Communionを発表。
