月の地質

月の地質（つきのちしつ）は、地球の地質とはかなり異なる。月の地質を研究する学問を月質学(Selenology)と言う。月には、気候による侵食を起こす大気がなく、またプレートテクトニクスも持たない。重力は小さく、大きさも小さいため、冷えるのが早い。月面の複雑な地形は、主に衝突盆地と火山活動によるものである。最近の分析で、月の水は表面に存在するだけではなく、内部には月の表面全体を1mも覆うほどの水を持つことが明らかとなった[1]。月は分化が進んだ天体で、地殻、マントル、核を持つ。
