マーク・フェル（Mark Fell）は、イギリス・シェフィールド出身、ロザラムを拠点とする音楽プロデューサー兼アーティスト[1]。ソロ名義による作品は ラスター・ノートン、エディションズ・メゴ、Lineなどからリリースされており、エラースミス、ガボール・ラザールなど多くのアーティストとの合作作品もリリースを行なっている。また、Mat Steel と結成したユニット SND のメンバーとして知られ、ミル・プラトーからリリースされた「Modulation & Transformation 4」「Clicks_+_Cuts」に参加した。Mat とは、「Blir」「Sensate Focus」といった別名義での活動も行なっている。ライアン・トレイナーの父親でもある[2]。フェルの作品はエレクトロニックダンスミュージックと実験音楽文化の政治とイデオロギーを探求し、その抑制された最小限のスタイルで有名である。
作風
細部にこだわった丹念な音作りが特徴的である。作品ごとにサウンドパレットは大きく異なり、無調の作品も存在するが、本人は「変な音を求めているのではなく、普通の音で変なパターンを作ることに興味がある。」と話している。MAX/MSP を使用した生成的なリズムシーケンスと、90年代ニューヨークハウスからの影響を受けたと話す鮮やかな和音の2つを主軸としたシンプルな構成が印象的である。構造をシンプルに留める理由について、複数のシンセサイザーの組み合わせが上手く機能しないことを指摘する他、単純にお金がなかったとも話している。
