グリーンブーツ

グリーンブーツ (Green Boots) は、エベレスト山頂への主要なルートとなっている北東稜ルートで、ランドマークとなっていた身元未確認の遺体に付けられた呼称[1][2]。この遺体は公式には身元が確認されていないが、インド人登山家で1996年にエベレストで遭難死したツェワング・パルジョール (Tsewang Paljor) と考えられている。「グリーンブーツ」という呼称は、遺体が履いているコフラック (Koflach) 社製の緑色の登山ブーツに由来する。北側から登頂を目指す者は皆、この標高8,500 m (27,900 ft)に位置する石灰岩が張り出した洞にあるこの遺体に遭遇する。2006年には、デイヴィッド・シャープがエベレストへの単独登頂に成功した後、この「グリーンブーツ・ケーブ (Green Boots' Cave)」で遭難死した。
