《校舎が、蔦(つた)でおおわれているところから》米国東部の名門大学の一群。イェール・ハーバード・プリンストン・コロンビア・ダートマス・コーネル・ペンシルベニア・ブラウンの8大学。

アイビー・リーグ（英: Ivy League）とは 、アメリカ合衆国北東部にある8つの私立大学の総称[1][2][3]。米国の政財界・学界・法曹界を先導する卒業生を数多く輩出しており[4][5][6]、米国社会では伝統的に「東海岸の裕福なエリート校グループ」と捉えられている[1][7][8]。

  1. ^ 但し、本文記事中で詳細を説明している通り、スポーツ競技連盟として、その母体は戦前からあったものの正式にアイビーリーグが成立したのは戦後（1945年）のことである。ちなみに東京六大学野球連盟の成立とともに東京六大学の概念が誕生したのは1926年になる。
