メンター (人工衛星)

メンター（英：Mentor）は、静止軌道上からシギント(信号諜報)活動を行っているアメリカ合衆国の現役の偵察衛星(スパイ衛星)のシリーズである。アメリカ国家安全保障局 (National Security Agency：NSA)と中央情報局 (Central Intelligence Agency：CIA)の協力を得て開発され、実際の運用は アメリカ国家偵察局 (National Reconnaissance Office：NRO) が行っている [2] 。

- ^ 新聞報道では「位置がまったくずれない」となっているが正確ではなく、制御システムとしての観点からは徐々にズレが増え、それを定期的に修正する、という挙動となる（美星スペースガードセンターからの報告ではそのように説明されている）。地球の赤道面における重力場の勾配（不均一さ）などのために、静止衛星は制御無しの場合、この付近ではインド洋のあたりに向けてズレてゆくため、運用中の静止衛星は通常、恒常的にその補正を行っている。X00639あるいはX000639という、美星スペースガードによって付けられた整理番号で知られている「物体」である。
