That broke the Disney first weekend record of $5,951,810 set by a 'Snow White' re-issue last summer.

It also pushed out 'Footloose,' the box-office leader for the past three weeks. The Paramount movie grossed nearly $5.5 million at 1,384 theaters in its fourth weekend, raising its total take to more than $31.9 million.

Exact figures for 'Against All Odds' were not immediately available, but Columbia officials indicated it grossed about $5.4 million in its second weekend for a total take of about $9 million.

'Blame It on Rio' held the fourth position in its fourth weekend, grossing more than $1.9 million on 908 screens. The 20th Century-Fox film's cumulative take rose to more than $13.7 million.

'Terms of Endearment,' which won a Directors Guild award Saturday night and is the leading Oscar nominee, slipped to fifth in its 16th weekend, grossing more than $1.88 million on 958 screens. The Paramount hit has now grossed $87.437,122 million after 16 weekends.

Disney's 'Never Cry Wolf' led the second rank of film grossers with more than $830,000 at 511 theaters, giving its more than $24.75 million after 23 weeks.

The only other films above half a million in weekend receipts were 'Broadway Danny Rose,' surpassing $9 million total after seven weeks; 'The Right Stuff,' rising above $21 million after 21 weeks; 'Silkwood,' with more than $33 million after 13 weeks; and 'Scarface,' totaling nearly $41 million after 14 weeks.

Other long-running, big-grossing films included Clint Eastwood's 'Sudden Impact,' drawing $461,000 for a total take of more than $67 million, and Barbra Streisand's 'Yentl,' collecting $435,609 for a total of more than $37.5 million.

Although last week's grosses were not tracked for 'Return of the Jedi,' 20th Century-Fox officials said the epic upped its total receipts to $252,363,523, leaving it third on the all-time list after 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial' and 'Star Wars.'
