IT’S DELIVEROO TO A THRILL...

- ■ ■Rachel BERESFORD

AS THINGS really start to get back to normal, we must not forget to enjoy the summer while it’s still here — as we’re learning this week, the good weather is most definitely not here to stay.

So to make hay when the sun shines again, Deliveroo has set up a new Summer Bundles option on the app where customers can order food for their summer picnic, back garden dinner party or double date at home.

With just a few clicks punters will be able to order a meal big enough for four to six people and get money off at the same time.

What’s not to love?

Well, Chic put this to the test to see if the offer really is as good as it claims — and we can confirm, it is...

We’ve all been there — the family all want something different for dinner. You want a chicken curry from your favourite chinese but your significant other doesn’t eat meat. And the kids don’t like anything spicy.

So, all of a sudden, a cheap and cheerful chicken curry for dinner turns into three different meals — a meat option, vegetarian version and dry chicken balls and chips for the kids.

It’s a nuisance and can really hit you in the pocket.

In my family alone we have a vegetarian, a pescatarian and a sometimes vegan — so needless to say ordering takeout dinner can be quite the ordeal.

TASTY: Deliveroo’s Summer Bundles are perfect to try with friends or groups

This week I gave

Deliveroo’s Summer

Bundles a try and was pleasantly surprised by the deals on offer.

They have been well thought-out by the participating restaurants, offering plenty of choice and food combinations for families, starting from as low as €38.99.

If you haven’t yet tried The Vegan Sandwich Co. (6 queen Street, Smithfield, D03F76k), you don’t know what you’re missing. Whether you are vegan or not, this place is a must-try.

And the newest ‘Thriller sandwich filler’ — roast chick*n pieces and bac*n strips that can be cooked up at home to fill your sambo, or add to your favourite outdoor dinner date dishes — is sure to be a hit with everyone.

For meat eaters who still want to feel like they’re getting their protein fix, there’s a huge menu of sandwiches, burgers, kebabs or baguettes to choose from — ranging from a traditional, but plant based, club sandwich to a vegan doner with garlic mayo and sriracha in a toasted flatbread.

The Vegan Sandwich Co. is the perfect pit stop to grab a takeaway brunch or lunch for that park date with a pal. Just remember to pack a back-up brolly!

The idea for Deliveroo’s Summer Bundles, after all, came from the change in the public’s eating habits since the onset of the pandemic.

Ahead of the launch of the Summer Bundles, Deliveroo surveyed 500 Irish customers to gain an insight into their attitudes to outdoor dining.

And some 64 per cent of respondents said that, since early June, when restrictions were eased, they have met family and friends to dine outdoors.

And despite a willingness to embrace alfresco dining, over half of those surveyed (55 per cent) said they strongly believe that there should be better facilities to allow people to eat outdoors in Ireland.

Surprisingly, 29 per cent of respondents also said that they would even eat outdoors during the depths of winter.

So it is clear that Ireland is keen to embrace outdoor dining, even on the back of the reop reopening of the indoor din dining sector, and

Del Deliveroo’s Summer

Bun Bundles cater to that.

A At the time of going to p print, I was awaiting an order from Sano Piz Pizza (1-2 Exchange
