Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch are off to Wrestlemania after winning their respective Royal Rumble matches.

Rollins saw off Braun Strowman to book his place at April's blockbuster wrestling event, while Lynch overcame the challenge of Charlotte Flair - despite not officially being a participant.

Elsewhere, Finn Balor put in a strong showing but could not topple Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship, while Daniel Bryan overcame AJ Styles for the WWE Championship.

Asuka beat Lynch in the first match of the night for SmackDown's women's gold, while Ronda Rousey retained her Raw belt with victory over Sasha Banks.

But possibly the highlight of the night was Shane McMahon winning his first WWE title for 19 years when his spectacular shooting star press secured tag-team gold for him and The Miz against Sheamus and Cesaro.

Our man Neil Docking was at the helm of our blog throughout the event - follow it as it happened below...

Goodnight wrestling fans

That was an epic Royal Rumble pay-per-view, both in terms of quality and length, I’m exhausted!

The pre-show saw Bobby Roode and Chad Gable defeat Rezar and Scott Dawson in a fun tag team clash; Shinsuke Nakamura win the U.S. title from Rusev thanks to the distracting presence of Lane in a good match-up; then Buddy Murphy retain the Cruiserweight Championship against Akira Tozawa, Hideo Itami and Kalisto in a very good fatal four-way match. I could watch the 205 Live guys wrestle all night.

We then had Asuka submit Becky Lynch in an excellent opener with a shocking finish - hinting at Becky being involved again later on - The Miz and Shane McMahon capture the SmackDown tag titles from The Bar in a fun bout with an insane shooting star press finisher from McMahon; before Ronda Rousey pinned Sasha Banks in a cracking, ultra intense encounter.

Next up surprise entrant Becky Lynch won the women’s Rumble, which really picked up in the closing stages, by last eliminating Charlotte Flair to set up a mouthwatering match with Rousey at WrestleMania 35. Daniel Bryan then defeated AJ Styles in a well worked bout to retain the WWE Championship, which suffered from poor placing and the crowd being so worn out after Becky’s emotional victory. The SD tag match should have gone here.

Brock Lesnar desperately submitting Finn Balor to retain the Universal Championship was the climax of a brilliant title match when Lesnar seemed in real danger about being shoved stomach first into the corner of an announce table - kudos to both men for delivering a gripping contest.

Then Seth Rollins won a Rumble contest that started well but meandered at times, especially at the midway point, although we got some really cool appearances, including UK Champion Pete Dunne. Seth’s elimination of my pick Braun Strowman with a Curb Stomp on the apron was a great finish and the appearance of Nia Jax - laying waste before taking finishers from Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton like a champ - was great booking for me.

We now have two of the most talented and over young(ish) talents on the roster, Lynch and Rollins, heading to Mania, which has to be applauded.

Thanks for following all my updates - don’t forget to give me a follow @neildocking if you’ve enjoyed my coverage of Royal Rumble.

Goodnight!

What a cool finish

Seth Rollins will challenge for a world title at WrestleMania 35

Seth Rollins wins the Royal Rumble!

Rollins almost sends Braun flying after he eliminated Ziggler, with the Monster Among Men teetering on the apron after a superkick, but he fought back and hit a chokeslam over the ropes.

Now he returns to the ring, tries to finish off Seth, who tries to tip him over the top rope. They battle on the apron, Rollins kicks him into a ring post and to the gut, then HITS A CURB STOMP ON THE APRON TO WIN THE RUMBLE!

Seth Rollins is going to WrestleMania! What a finish!

Two to go

Strowman brings Seth into the ring, so he can eliminate him. Andrade gets involved and hits him with running knees.

Frog splash by Rollins on Braun. But the big man eliminates Andrade and now Ziggler.

Moment of the night

Braun is back

Orton and Rey eliminate Jax, then Orton hits Rey with an RKO and sees him off, but then Andrade throws out The Viper!

Andrade and Ziggler go at it, but Braun reappears and flattens them both. Outside the ring, he sees Seth coming too and smashes him over.

#30 R-Truth... or Nia Jax?

R-Truth is out at number 30, but he’s attacked by Nia Jax?! Why?

Who will replace him? Not Nia, surely?

What on earth? Jax heads to the ring.

She charges at Ziggler, then kicks over Rey, drops an elbow on the masked legend, smiles at Ali wo won;t hit her, then headbutts him and throws him out!

He lasted over 30 minutes before she got involved. Orton is behind her... he doesn’t care! The Viper smiles, goes for an RKO, is shoulder tackled by Nia, tries to eliminate Mysterio, is superkicked by Dolph and takes a 610 from Rey!

RKO out of nowhere on Nia!

#29 Randy Orton

13-time world champion and two-time Rumble winner Randy Orton is next out.

What’s this? A crazy Tower of Doom by Braun on pretty much everyone left in the match!

#28 Dolph Ziggler

Dolph Ziggler, who told everyone who would listen he wouldn’t be in the Rumble, is here! He head straight for his former friend turned bitter rival Drew McIntyre and eliminates the Scottish Psychopath with a superkick!

#27 Braun Strowman

BRAUUUUUNNNNNNN! Here;s my pick to win, Braun Strowman, in at the lucky number 27 position. He takes out his foe Corbin straight away.

#26 Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley, the Intercontinental Champion, joins the fray, The Almighty attacks Rollins.

He won his first title from JBL. He’s got a good chance of going far here perhaps? No! He’s been eliminated immediately! By Rollins perhaps?

Lashley attacks Rollins, with Lio Rush clears an announce table, lifts him up and chokeslams him through a table!

#25 Rey Mysterio

Former Rumble winner Rey Mysterio enters the contest but leaps off the top rope and is pulverised by McIntyre.

Nasty powerbomb by his rival on SmackDown, Andrade.

#24 Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy joins the match-up. Black nearly kicks Dunne’s teeth in, after Dunne tries to pull his fingers out of their sockets.

Corbin eliminates Black. Dunne threatens to break Corbin’s fingers, but takes a Claymore Kick from McIntyre, who throws him out.

#22 Shelton Benjamin #23 Baron Corbin

Shelton Benjamin is number 22. He hits Paydirt on Rollins I think, Coquina Clutch by Joe on Shelton, Ali breaks it up, Benjamin with a knee to Joe stepping up off Ali’s knee to hit the move, then Ali eliminates Joe! Wow! Joe looks LIVID.

Baron Corbin is number 23. He hits Deeps Six on Ali. Corbin eliminates Crews.

#21 Aleister Black

It’s the former NXT Champion, Aleister Black! Loud NXT chants.

Baclk with a roundhouse kick to Dunne, a springboard moonsault on Dunne and Ali, he trades kicks with Drew, then kicks Ali’s head off.

Ambrose, McIntyre and Andrade try to team up on Black, but with a huge Black Mass kick he eliminates Ambrose! Wow. Dean’s stock has fallen.

#19 Andrade and #20 Apollo Crews

Andrade enters the match and hits a stunning DDT on Dunne.

Next out is Apollo Crews, who also targets the UK Champion, hitting a fallaway slam.

#18 Pete Dunne

It’s the Bruiserweight! The face of NXT UK, the WWE UK Champion!

He hits a German suplex on Ali, stamps on his hand, kicks Joe in the back of the head after landing on his feet from a suplex by the juggernaut, then dares to mandhandle McIntyre and stamps on his hadn!

He then plants Ali on McIntyre, as Corey says he will one day be a world champion!

#17 Xavier Woods

Xavier Woods is number 17, he goes to great lengths to help Kofi stay in the ring in a daft spot, then Drew smashes both him and Kingston out of the match.

#16 Drew McIntyre

Here comes another favourite, Drew McIntyre. He batters the No Way Jose conga line on his way to the ring. Good man.

A Claymore Kick floors Joe. He’s a brave man going for the biggest foe in the ring.

#15 No Way Jose

No Way Jose, a waste of a spot if there ever was one, dances down to the ring with a conga line.

He’s eliminated straight away by Joe. Ta ra. He congas out.

Here’s Kofi’s antics:

#14 Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins’ nemesis, enters the match and they lay into each other.

Kofi hangs on the apron as Dean kicks him, he falls, but only one foot hits the floor. He spirals on his head, rolls across to the steps, then dives back into the ring and plants Ambrose with a DDT.

Gargano slingshot spears into Ambrose, but is caught with Dirty Deeds and eliminated. Trouble in Paradise by Kofi on Dean.

#13 Mustafa Ali

Mustafa Ali, who has been feuding with Joe, targets the big man as soon as he hits the ring. He fells the Samoan Submission Machine, taunts Nakamura with a “come on”, runs into a kick, but then kicks Shinsuke off the top turnbuckle and out of the Rumble!

Ali hits Gargano with a superkick, but then gets flattened by Joe.

#12 Kofi Kingston

Kofi Kingston, the Royal Rumble escapology master, is next out. What has he got in store for us tonight?

#11 Titus O'Neil

Titus O’Neil is here, will he slide in! He runs to the ring, but stops just short, not wanting to repeat his error from the Greatest Royal Rumble. He too heads under the ring.

He chases Hawkins out, chases him across the ring, but Hawkins pulls down the top rope and O’Neil is eliminated! Joe eliminates Hawkins shortly after.

Fun spot.

#10 Seth Rollins

Burn it down! Seth Rollins enters the match, many people’s favourite to win tonight, hitting a Falcon Arrow on Gargano.

Elias is just hanging on in the match with his arms wrapped around a ring post, but Rollins sends him packing.

#9 Curt Hawkins

Curt Hawkins, the owner of a 256 match losing streak, is next out. He doesn’t want any of Joe and I don’t blame him.

“Let’s go Hawkins chant”. Coquina Clutch by Joe on the former Edgehead, who rolls out of the ring and hides under it.

#8 Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe is here and business has picked up. STO on Nakamura.

Gargano leaps at him off the top turnbuckle and he just walks away.

Big E tries to suplex him but Joe hurls him out and beats his chest.

#6 Johnny Gargano and #7 Jinder Mahal

Big pop for the new NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano is the sixth entrant! Loud “Johnny Wrestling” chants as he takes it to Big E, trades blows with Elias, then just survives on the apron, before a slingshot spear on Elias.

Jinder Mahal, the former WWE Champion, is number seven. He’s kicked out by Gargano! The Singh Brothers got in the ring too, one is sent packing by Elias, the other eats a mouthful of pancakes and take a Big Ending.

#5 Big E

It’s Big E of The New Day, who re wearing gear which shows Kofi Kingston’s best Rumble moments down the years in comic book form. No really.

He hits belly to belly suplexes on Nakamura, then nails him with a big splash, as he tries to hit a Big Ending or send Shinsuke over the top rope that way.

Angle Slam on Big E! Nakamura sends him into a ring post, hits his jumping knee in the corner, then kicks Kurt off the apron. Loud boos. I’d have liked to see him last longer than that too.
