The Conjuring's Patrick Wilson has been teasing the return of the Warrens in the next two movies of The Conjuring universe.

Wilson will reprise his role as Ed Warren, alongside Vera Farmiga's Lorraine Warren, in next year's Annabelle 3, which takes place after the Warrens have brought the terrifying doll to their museum of cursed objects.

Then, hopefully in 2020, we'll see the Warrens return in The Conjuring 3 and we don't know all that much about it. So, when Wilson spoke to Digital Spy for the release of Aquaman, we tried to get anything out of him.

"Oh boy. We just finished Annabelle 3 which is cool. It's nice to dip our toes into that franchise a little bit. Conjuring 3 will be different than anything we've seen, which is fun," he teased.

That's the clearest hint yet that the third movie won't feature another family living in a haunted house like the first two movies.

Aquaman marks Wilson's fifth time working with James Wan, but Wan won't be directing the third Conjuring movie. Wan told Digital Spy that the decision to step away from it (although he'll still produce) was born out of wanting to do something new.

"I’m always constantly trying to find stuff that would challenge me as a filmmaker and I don’t linger in that one space for too long. Even though I’ve done a bunch of horror movies, all my horror movies are slightly different to each other," he explained.

Wan did at least fit in a reference to The Conjuring in Aquaman, while Wilson has been speaking about where he feels some superhero movies go wrong.
